Sabina
(in developement)
a film by Xavier Koller
While the greatest tragedies of the 20th century cast their shadows on the horizon, the moving story of this extraordinary woman SABINA SPIELREIN unfolds over a period of 40 years. In 1904, Carl Gustav Jung cures the 19-year-old mentally ill Russian Jewess with his sensitive therapy and discovers an educated, brilliant, strong young woman under the cloak of her illness, whose mysterious nature increasingly fascinates, intellectually challenges and erotically enchants C.G. Jung. Sabina emancipates herself from Jung and becomes the first woman to complete a doctorate in psychoanalysis, challenging both the male domain and her sponsor with her thoughts and actions.
Back in Russia, she witnesses the decline of the utopia of a classless society, culminating in Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, which neither she nor her two daughters survived.
